The Hong Kong Polytechnic University takes pride to organize and host the Secondary School Mathematics and Science Competition (SSMSC) to promote students' interests in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics through competition.

There are six levels of achievement*:

 
Medal: top 2 percentile, i.e. 98% < x ≤ 100%
High Distinction: 85% < x ≤ 98%
Distinction: 70% < x ≤ 85%
Credit: 50% < x ≤ 70%
Proficiency: 35% < x ≤ 50%
Participation: x ≤ 35%

Contestants awarded with High Distinction or Medal may be invited for interviews if they choose PolyU programme(s) of relevant disciplines# as their Band A choice(s) AND record the award(s) properly in the “Other Experiences and Achievements (OEA)” section of the application form for Joint University Programmes Admissions System (JUPAS). Contestants awarded High Distinction or Medal in more than one subject / year should record the awards in separate entries in the OEA section, otherwise multiple awards recorded in the same entry will be considered by PolyU as one award.  

*  Levels of achievement are subject to final decision of the organizer.
